I see your PCIIIusb software works with Windows 98 “SE”. What does the “SE” mean?
The “SE” means Second Edition. The first version of Windows 98 did not properly support USB devices. If you go into “Control Panel” in Windows and double click the “System” icon the version number is displayed. If the version number is 4.10.2222, it is the “SE” version.

When I connect my PCIIIusb to my computer running Windows 98SE, it asks for “drivers”. Where do I get these?
The drivers required are found on the install disk for Windows 98SE. We have also put copies of the necessary drivers in a folder named Win98 on the Power Commander CD.

I am trying to communicate with my PCIIIusb using the supplied 9 volt adapter, but the computer does not see it. What should I check?
A low battery will keep the PCIIIusb from communicating. The PCIIIusb can quickly drain (about 20 minutes of use) a new battery, so make sure to not leave it plugged in longer than necessary. Also, make sure the cable is pushed all the way into the PCIIIusb’s port. Sometimes the connector needs a fair amount of pressure to fully seat it.

The Power Commander software says 'Serial: N/A' at the top right hand corner of the screen and does not show any serial numbers or 'TP' readings.
Answer: The Power Commander USB needs to be powered up by either the bike or a brand new 9 volt battery via the battery adapter. If the unit is not powered up, the computer will only see a USB device being plugged in, but will not allow the software to communicate. If a battery has been plugged in for around 5 minutes, it may be too low on power to allow good communication.

The message 'Power Commander not found' comes up on my interface. What does that mean?
The software is not communicating with the Power commander,. Make sure that the ignition switch is on, the kill switch is in position, and the USB cable is firmly connected to both the Power commander and the computer. Make sure that the unit is staying powered up (green light will be lit on the face of the unit) and the your cable is connected. The USB cable needs to 'snap' into place. Applying ample pressure is sometimes required.

When I adjust by Power Commander using the faceplate buttons and then do a 'get all' with the software I do not see any changes to the map. Is this normal
When adjusting the buttons, these changes will not be shown in the cells of the software.

This message will appear if you try to load a map from a different make or model than the Power Commander is connected to. (i.e. attempting to load a Harley map to a Suzuki).

What ranges (low, mid, high) do the face plate buttons affect my fuel curve?
The button ranges of the Power Commander break your RPM up into thrids. If you are using a Power Commander then while communicating to the software press one, and the highlighted area will represent that button.

The firmware program does not appear to work and I get an error code that has a '0x005, 0x008, 8001' or something similar.
These errors appear to be communication related. Unplug the USB cable from the programmer and switch USB ports on the computer. If the error still comes up, try switching the USB port to another one and restart the computer while the programmer is plugged into the USB cable. This should refresh the USB port. Power to the programmer does not need to be attached.

The Power Commander 3 USB does not power up anymore after loading the firmware for my ignition module.
The firmware did not load correctly and needs to be reloaded.

How can I tell what PCIII USB Control Center Software version I have?
Open the PCIII USB Control Center application on your computer, and go to the 'Help' menu at the top. From the 'Help' menu click on 'About Power Commander 3 USB Software' to find your version.

PC3 software wont launch from flash player on Windows Vista based system.
Short term solution 1(recommended): Users need access the CD/Flash installer as an Administrator. To do this Right Click on the CD/DVD drive - Select Explore. When window with CD contents opens - Right click on Setup.exe and select Run as Administrator. This will launch the Flash installer with UAC turned off temporarily.
Short term solution 2: Bypass the Flash installer and run the PC3 setup file manually. To do this Right Click on the CD/DVD drive - Select Explore. When window with CD contents opens navigate to the FS Command folder and search for PC3Setup.exe. Once clicked Windows will ask you to block or allow select allow.
Short term solution 3: Customer to turn off UAC on their Windows account ( need to have Admin Rights). To do this The user needs to go to their Control Panel- select User Accounts. From there select their account profile. Once their account opens ther will be an option (if they have admin rights) to turn off UAC. They will then be required to re-Start their computer. Once complete run the CD as usual.
Long term solution: I will look into other ways to build the Installation CD, The FS Command method is outdated and prone to these type of problems. There are other ways to accomplish the scope of the installation CD but will require some time to deploy.

My throttle position in the Control Center software is not reading 0%
When the engine if fully warmed up and the bike is at idle the Control Center software should read 0% We have seen as high as an 8% variation in the throttle position from bike to bike. If yours is not reading “zero” at idle with the motor at normal temperature, then use the following procedure to correct it. In the Power Commander Control Center Software, go to menu “Power Commander Tools” and look for the tool to calibrate the throttle. The bike should always be running when setting the throttle position, as the voltage the sensor sends out can vary between when the bike is at “key on” and “motoring running”. The bike also needs to be at fully warmed up to its normal operating temperature. All you need to do is press 'reset' while the bike running at idle, then quickly turn the throttle wide open till you hit the mechanical stop, then let go. Next press 'Ok'. You don't have to rev the bike out, the throttle just needs to go all the way to wide open and then back to idle.

My engine makes a popping noise on deceleration, how to I get rid of this?
Decel popping is caused by the detonation of unburned fuel in the exhaust pipe. This happens with high flow exhausts that allow more fresh air to be pulled into the pipe, causing the exhaust temperature to rise and detonate any unburnt fuel. Ways to reduce and possibly eliminate this popping are listed below and can vary between Harley-Davidson motorcycles and others. Exhaust leaks can cause decel pop, make sure the exhaust is sealed completely at the motor, and at any other connections.
Harley-Davidson:
- 1. For older Magnetti-Marelli fuel injected bikes, adjusting the fuel table to remove fuel can help reduce popping. Highlight the zero percent column from 2,000 rpm to redline and enter in values from -40 to -50. Run the bike and see if the popping has reduced. Sometimes, the throttle position may not show zero at idle and should be correctly adjusted with the bike at full operating temperature to make sure it is reading zero.
- 2. On newer Delphi fuel injected bikes, we have found that adding fuel is needed to reduce popping. Highlight the zero percent column and instead of using negative numbers, try adding fuel to the map. Start with putting a value of 25 in the cells and see if the popping has reduced.
- 3. Adjusting the ignition table could also help in deceleration popping. Advance the timing in the zero percent column 3 to 5 degrees to see if popping has been reduced.
Metric and other:
- 1. Block off the fresh air injection systems. This will reduce the air being fed into the exhaust, causing the higher exhaust temperatures and detonation.
- 2. Many of today’s bikes (post 2007 or so) shut the injectors completely off during deceleration. If this is the case no adjustments made by the Power Commander, or any piggyback device, can help reduce this problem. On bikes that keep the injectors on during deceleration adjustments to the fuel table in the zero percent fuel column from 2,000 rpm to redline may help reduce popping. A value of positive or negative 15-40 should be added and can reduce popping if it is still noticeable.

How do I adjust the buttons on the faceplate of a Power Commander III?
- With the ignition off, hold down all three buttons on the Power Commander III unit.
- While still holding down the buttons, turn on the ignition and start the bike.
- Release buttons. The light(s) should show up in the last place they were left, by default the center two lights.
- Select the range you wish to adjust: Low, Med, High by pushing the corresponding button once, (these ranges are determined by taking the bikes RPM limit and then dividing it into thirds).
- At this point holding that button down will move the lights down (leaning out the mixture).
- Pushing the button repeatedly will move the light up (richening the mixture).
- When the two center lights are lit up this is the “0” setting.
- After making your adjustments wait 20 seconds before turning it off. This allows the settings to be saved to memory.

I want to alter the map in my power commander but I cannot get my computer close enough to my motorcycle
Using the 9V power adapter that comes with the Power Commander allows you to remove the Power Commander from the bike and bring it inside to your computer.

I'm having trouble installing the Accelerator Pump Utility to my USB Power Commander III.
- Verify that the latest version of the PCIII USB Control Center Software is installed on your computer and can communicate with the power commander
- 1. Close all Power Commander Applications on your computer.
- 2. Install the Accelerator Pump Utility to your Desktop and open it.
- 3. Verify that 'Accelerator Pump Feature Enabled' is displayed by clicking on the Enable Accelerator Pump Feature Button.
- 4. Close the Accelerator Pump Utility that is open on your desktop.
- 5. Open the PCIII USB Control Center Software that is on your computer.
- 6. Go to the 'Power Commander Tools' menu and then to 'Accelerator Pump Configuration' to make the required setting changes for your style of riding, then click OK .

My Power Commander came with O2 eliminators, should I use these and what are they?
On bikes that use an O2 sensor in the stock exhaust have a closed loop area that can not be adjusted by the Power Commander alone. If you make adjustments with the PCIII in the closed loop area the O2 sensor will sense these changes and the ECM will alter the fuel curve accordingly. If you want to have full fuel control over the entire RPM range of your bike then you will need to bypass the closed loop area which the O2 eliminators will accomplish. If you are looking for the best fuel economy and not worried about making changed to the closed loop area you can leave the stock O2 sensors connected and still make changes outside of the closed loop area with the Power Commander.

I am having trouble starting the engine when the Power Commander is installed.
Most Power Commanders are powered by the injectors on the bike. When you turn the key on, the fuel pump gets power and primes the fuel circuit. When this happens, the injectors get power, and the Power Commander also gets power and lights up. After a few moments, the fuel pump has pressurized the system, and usually shuts off. If the fuel pump shuts off, the injectors’ loose power, and the Power Commander shuts off. If you attempt to start the bike when the Power Commander is off, the bike may take longer to start than normal, until the fuel pump comes back on. The fuel pump may come on instantly, after a few engine revolutions, or on some bikes seemingly not at all. If the fuel pump does not come on, the bike will not start. We recommend starting the bike once you turn the key on. Do not wait for the fuel pump to shut off, or a check engine light to go out.

If I disconnect my battery will the Power Commander lose it's map?
No, all Power Commanders utilize a nonvolatile memory (it does not require constant power to maintain it). The only way a map can be “erased” is to use a computer to load a new one in place of it.

The buttons on my Power Commander don't feel like they are movingBecause of the special compound used to seal the units, the buttons may feel like they do not move, even though they actually do.

I have had a Power Commander on my bike for quite a while and it has been running great. One day it just started running rough (like it was a cylinder was misfiring) so I disconnected the Power Commander and it went away. What could be the problem with the unit?
The most common problem we see with returned Power Commander is damage to the wiring harness. If the Power Commanders’ wiring harness is cut or nicked by the frame or sharp bracket it can short to ground. Once this happens a number of symptoms may be present, overly rich running, hesitation, stalling, etc. We suggest very closely inspecting the harness for any signs of damage. Small cuts may be difficult to see. If any damage is found, you can simply retape that area, unless the wiring is significantly shorted.

I ride a lot in the rain. Do I need to wrap my Power Commander in a plastic bag?
No, the Power Commander is a fully sealed unit. It is not necessary to cover the unit to protect it from water. The most important thing to is to make sure the port plugs are used.
Ignition Module
My ignition module does not show up after having the firmware loaded. If you go to 'View' and 'Power Commander Information' menu, the only module shown is Module 0. The Power Commander software does not show an ignition table, either.
Make sure that the latest Power Commander USB software (Version 1.1.3) is installed. If it is then try to reload the firmware into the Power Commander. The firmware must be loaded into the Power Commander and when you go to the 'View' menu and 'Power Commander Information', the firmware version should show 2.0.4. Once all of the above items are verified, an ignition table will show up when the ignition module is connected.

The bike is starting and then dying with the ignition module plugged in.
Make sure that the ignition module is communicating with the bike by showing a green indicator light on the front of the module once the bike is started. If the light is red, connections may need to be checked. The module should show green as soon as the bike is running which will show communication with the bike. Reloading firmware may also help.

The ignition module does not power up.
The ignition module may have been inline when programming the firmware for the Power Commander. If so, the firmware for the ignition module will need to be reloaded into it for the unit to come back on. Please contact Dynojet regarding this process.
Linear Shifter
Bike will not start with the linear shifter installed.
- a. If the LED on the shifter is on and red, then the spacing is incorrect and the shifter is engaged which will keep the bike from starting. Change the spacing until the light is green and the bike should start.
- b. If the light is not on, then the placement of the wires in the white connector on the shifters harness needs to be checked.

Harley Touring Model
On my Harley Touring model once in a while my cruise control and 6th gear light will stop working.
If you experience any problems with cruise control, or 6th gear indicator light on a newer Harley Davidson Touring bike with a Power Commander V installed. In the Power Commander software go to Power Commander Tools/Configure/Harley ECM Data. Uncheck the box next to Diagnostic Port Enabled. Click OK. Click Send Map.

The bike will not start with the unit installed.
Verify where the injector connectors have been hooked up. There are two identical sets of connectors on this bike. There is a set next to the fuel rail and there is one set next to the shock under the seat and battery. If they are plugged in down by the shock, the unit will not work. The unit should be plugged into the set next to the fuel rail.

Bike runs rough regardless of what map is used or fuel value entered.
Verify the placement of the Throttle Position Sensor wire tap. It should be installed on the red wire with a yellow tracer on the GRAY connector side of the ECU. There is a yellow wire with a red tracer on the BLACK connector for the ECU that can easily be mistaken for the correct one. Also, verify that the connector is securely fastened and has not cut through the wire. If it cut through the wire, the Power Commander still may get a throttle position signal, but it may be erratic.

The bike randomly cuts out or sputters while riding.
If custom LED tail lights are being used, they may give off interference up the line that causes the Power Commander to loose its 12 volt reference for power and shut off. The power wire (Red wire with bullet connector terminals) will need to be relocated to a keyed, solid 12 volt power source.
Applicable to 03-09 CBR 600/1000, 04-09 GSXR 600/750, 07-09 GSXR1000
While in the Power Commander 3 USB software, the RPM reading does not show up when the bike is running.
The injector connectors have been installed into the secondary injectors (on top of the air box), rather than the primary injectors (underneath the tank).

There are a few connectors on these bikes which are the exact same as the TPS connector. Verify you are on the correct one. The TPS connector will be on one end of the throttle bodies.

The TPS connectors from the PCIII may be connected to the wrong location. The Throttle Position Sensor on this bike is located on the left hand side of the throttle bodies. There is the same connected on the back side of the throttle bodies that is for the MAP sensor, this is the incorrect location for the PCIII to be connected to. Please verify in the instructions.

The bike is hard to start and cuts out while riding with the Power Commander installed.
This issue can be related to improper placement of the ground wires. The ground wires for the Power Commander must be placed exactly per the instructions for the unit. Any other locations may not supply a secure ground path and cause issues.

Bike may or may not start, idles rough, and the TPS does not set correctly.
Verify where the connectors are hooked up. Start at the throttle bodies and trace down to the first set of connectors that you come to. This is the correct set. There is another set further down the harness that the connectors will fit into. The correct set is on the left hand side of the frame.

Unit will not light up or allow the bike to start.
Verify where the injector connector is plugged into. There is an identical connector on the left hand side above the air box, right next to where the TPS connector is located. The correct connector is on the right hand side, between the #3 and #4 throttle bodies.

The unit communicates fine by reflecting a Serial number but does not reflect RPM or TPS. The light bar appears to stick at the top.
There is two sets of connectors on this bike but one is grey and the other is black. The Power Commander needs to be plugged into the grey one for proper operation.

The bike will not start after washing the bike or running in rain for an extended amount of time.
These models have a rubber boot that needs to be transferred from the bike's OEM connector to ours. This keeps water out of the computer and if not installed, the sides of the ECM have openings that allow liquid right into the circuitry. In some cases, the computer can be removed and dried out for a couple days and it will function like normal, but this is not guaranteed. Make sure that the rubber boot, if it was installed, does not have any holes and is securely placed to keep water out as much as possible.

The Power Commander connectors have water in them after riding through rain or wet weather.
The stock connector on this model does not have pins in every single space and therefore Harley-Davidson put little rubber plugs in their place to seal up the open spaces. These plugs still seem to allow water by and it causes corrosion to start on the Power Commander connector. We recommend putting di-electric grease in our connector before plugging them together so that the moisture is blocked. Also, relocation of the connector to under the right side cover, on top of the ECM, may be beneficial.

If I live in the United States can I use one of the European maps?
Dynojet offers different maps for the US market and the European market due to the differences in the fuels. In most cases the fuel available in Europe will make a bike run much richer than the fuel available in the US. For this reason we recommend that you use a map that coincides with the region in that you live in. Although we have seen some European maps work well for US bikes so it may be worth trying.
